Planning is the starting point, but it is only executing the plan which will get you the results you want. Jack Canfield in “The Success Principles” talks about using ready, fire, aim rather than ready, aim, fire because once you have fired you have a result which you can then use to guide your next shot. It is so easy to get stuck at the aim part of the process, in business this is generally either procrastination, fear or self-sabotage. The successful people do things, make mistakes, correct the mistakes and get it right next time.
The seven step process for taking your business to another level is:
- Understand your target.
- Create a plan to hit the target.
- Follow the plan and do the actions required.
- Review your results.
- Redirect and reset your plan as appropriate.
- Celebrate your successes.
- Start the process again.
No rocket engineering here, a very simple process which we know just works, I say rocket engineering not rocket science because rocket science is actually very simple – get a flammable gas and light it – rocket engineering on the other hand is more intellectual than that.
Taking time out of your business is invaluable because it takes you away from the day to day hamster wheel. You are then in a safe place where you can explore what you want to achieve, how you are going to achieve it and who is going to do what along that journey.
